No Guts No Glory

No guts, no glory! I'm here with a quick update and a couple detail shots of some work I did on the open wall up here in Edmonton yesterday. The piece was meant to turn out gory (hence the text 'Cannibal System' and (not pictured) 'Sick of Bablyon') but somehow ended up looking like skulls eating florescent spaghetti. That's actually way better anyways. I've got a busy couple weeks ahead of me - school just started again and I'm in the middle of designing three more new murals, as well as getting ready to paint at the Kaleido festival on Saturday. The Kaleido event should be dope, 3 other artists and I have been provided with supplies and honorariums and will be collaborating on four canvases in the 'Exquisite Corpse' method, which basically entails each artist painting one section of each canvas - the other artists are talented and have been painting for a while, so I'm excited to see the results. I'll be back with photos!!

Boom! Robots.

Whoa, watch out big guy! This robot is about to earn himself a Darwin award, smoking while holding that dangerous bomb. What is he doing up there, you say? Smashing the city of course... Pesky robots!!! Where'd they come from, you ask? Read on...

Yo! So a funny thing happened yesterday. I was chillin' at my homie Bmar's house in Sylvan Lake, and then 'BOOM!' all of a sudden (over the course of 13 hours) a gang of giant robots busted through the wall!! They were being real jackasses, savagely demolishing buildings and wreaking havoc on infrastructure with their lasers and bombs, but you know how robots are.

This guy kept rapping in weird robot voice the whole time, it was pretty good i guess.

But yeah, pretty much a battleground in there. And you know those damn robots aren't sticking around to help clean up.

This robot had a fancy hat.

dashing gentleman of a son Rowan.

YO!! Glad to be back after such a long hiatus. Life is GOOD! As usual, I've been super busy with art, school, and work, and especially so in the last couple months. Here's a quick update of the major happenings in my art life: In December, I was the Art Coordinator for a group mural around the International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination created by myself and some great people from Edmonton's Centre for Race and Culture and Canada World Youth - I will post the photos as soon as I get them. At that event I met Darren Jordan, who invited me to submit my portfolio for an upcoming gallery show. Fortunately for me, they were interested in seeing more, so I was invited to be featured in a gallery show, (5 Artists, 1 Love) coming up on Feb. 5th-19th at the TU gallery (10718 124st Edmonton AB)!! Big ups to Ricky who introduced me to Darren and to Steph Molina for linking me up with the CFRAC event. Last night was the beginning of Hip Hop on the Wall at the Latitude 53 gallery (10248 106st Edmonton AB), which was a fundraiser for this year's Hip Hop in the Park and runs until Feb 11th. I have two paintings in the show, one of which sold last night. Also, starting on Feb 1st, Leah Erickson and I will be sharing a small cafe show at the Mandolin Cafe (6419 112 Avenue NW) for the month of February. I've been lucky enough to get some media coverage for all my events coming up too! This past thursday I was interviewed by See magazine (seemagazine.com - the article should run in print in about a week and a half), a photo of my work was printed in the Edmonton Journal today, then at 11:30 (in a couple hours) I'm being interviewed by CBCradio!! Big tings poppin'! I won't be posting many photos until after the gallery show, but here's a couple things you haven't seen yet - a couple old and a couple new!

Rest In Power GURU

This work was created with spray paint at the Hip Hop in the Park 2010 event as a tribute to Keith Elam, AKA Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal (GURU), a legend and major originator in Hiphop music and culture, and one of my favourite MCs. His presence is sorely missed - he was most famous for his seminal work with DJ Premier in the group Gangstarr, as well as for being a major force in Jazz-Hiphop fusion with his Jazzmatazz projects. Rest In Power GURU (1961-2010). Both pieces were purchased at the event and now belong to Khy of Locution Revolution - check his crew out after the jump.(http://locutionrevolution.com/home.cfm)
